About this event
This training session will run over 2 half days. Thursday 8th September and Thursday 6th October 2022.
We know that two thirds of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities/Additional Support Needs (SEND/ASN) families are keen to visit museums, even with concerns about COVID-19 remaining for many families. Kids in Museums 2020 survey found that there are key improvements that museums can make to better support the needs of a SEND/ASN child within a family group.
• understand the barriers SEND/ASN families face when visiting museums
• gain inspiration from case studies to enable you to create a SEND/ASN family backpack, which provide focus and structure, enabling the experience of the museum to be holistic and much more relaxed.
• explore examples of best practice in museums for welcoming SEND/ASN families
• share top tips for how to start and embed the work in your organisation.
Who should attend?
These training sessions are more suitable for those working with children, young people, and families on a regular basis in Scottish museum and heritage organisations in Scotland. We can only take bookings from staff or volunteers from museums in Scotland.
