About the Event

The MGS Strategic Learning Forum is a platform for museum and gallery learning practitioners to work collaboratively to improve learning provision in the Scottish museum, gallery, and heritage sector. The forum events are a valuable contact point between strategic-level education policy areas and museum professionals engaged in learning roles. It discusses the latest updates in learning and engagement and enables members to network and share best practice. The forum regularly invites speakers to present on thematic areas of formal and informal learning and engagement.

This meeting will focus on Curriculum for Excellence and the Empire, Slavery and Scotland Museums (ESSM) project.

Lynne Robertson, Senior Education Officer, at Education Scotland will give update on the Prof Muir’s report on education reform and the vision for Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) and Education Scotland’s response.

Devon McHugh, Senior Partnerships Manager, Museums Galleries Scotland will share an overview of the ESSM project, with a focus on how this work relates to the curriculum and learning in museums.

There will be opportunity to discuss these two reports and implications for museums, galleries, and heritage learning provision, explore opportunities and potential collaborations and support for learning practitioners and teachers working closely together to implement positive changes that deliver benefit for learning, social and mental development of children and young people.
