MGS response to statement by Industrial Museums Scotland, Scottish Community Heritage Alliance (SCHA) and Museums Heritage Highland
Lucy Casot, CEO of Museums Galleries Scotland, said:
“This is an extremely challenging time for Scotland’s museums and galleries. We are in continuous dialogue with all parts of the sector and are keenly aware of the difficult situation highlighted by IMS, SCHA and MHH. Our Urgent Response Fund was set up to alleviate the immediate pressures on independent museums, a part of the sector that is particularly baring the impact of COVID-19 at this time. We are aware of the limitations of this fund and urgent need to plan for beyond this immediate crises stage and are further developing our three-phased approach of ‘Emergency, Recovery and Resilience’ to support the sector in 2020/21. Details will be announced in the coming weeks.
We are in regular contact with the Scottish Government and other funding bodies, and are working with VisitScotland and ASVA, to ensure that the specific needs of all museums and galleries are understood. It is absolutely vital that museums and galleries keep us informed of their situation to enable us to make the strongest advocacy case on their behalf.”
