COVID-19 Adaptation Fund

Museums can apply for up to £7,500 (£10,000 for partnerships) to purchase equipment and training that will enable them to reopen safely and in accordance with restrictions due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

About the fund

This fund is designed to support museums with the costs of opening back up in a way that ensures the safety and confidence of staff, volunteers and visitors while restrictions are still in place due to COVID-19. The fund will support costs of essential adaptations, equipment and training.

Applicants must follow government guidelines as they plan to re-open. They should tell us how they will use the equipment purchased, how they have determined the appropriate quantities and the guidance that they have referred to in planning their adaptations. Please refer to the section ‘Assessment criteria’ below before you complete an application.

Assessment criteria

This is intended to be a straight forward application that is easy and quick for you to complete. Please do bear in mind that when we assess applications we will be looking to see that:

  • The funding you are requesting is for things that are essential to re-open your museum safely and in accordance with government guidance.

- Remember to help us understand your particular set up and how that dictates the adaptations you need to put in place.

  • You have referenced government guidance and other relevant sources of information to inform the adaptations you are planning.

- Remember to specifically tell us how you have applied government guidance and other advice in your particular situation.

  • That the quantities or equipment you are requesting are appropriate.

- Remember to tell us how you have calculated what you will need. For example, how many staff and volunteers are you acquiring PPE    for; how many visitors are you planning for, over what period of time – how long to you expect these stocks to last?
