What are the challenges for people living with dementia in visiting a museum or joining in with museum activities? Why do we want people living with dementia to come to our museums and our museum activities? In what ways will they benefit? What can we do to make a visit successful? Come along to find answers to these important questions.
The workshop instructor Sarah Wright, is Wellbeing Project Coordinator at Gairloch Museum, where she coordinates weekly ‘Whatever the Weather Wednesday’ sessions. Within this accessible and inclusive programme activities include sharing memories, looking at museum objects, playing games and enjoying getting to know each other. Sarah is trained in working with people with learning disabilities, dementia and autism, and Whatever the Weather Wednesday is constantly developing to ensure her programme is welcoming to all, with every participant able to access the support they need to join in with activities.
Donations towards Groam House Museum will enable them to hold more training sessions, workshops and online events. This training is made possible through the National Heritage Lottery Fund.
