Achieving Community Wellbeing
MGS are submitting a short item to the Committee’s online portal, which will outline the huge contribution museums make to enhancing wellbeing.
There is an ever-expanding body of research that is testament to the positive effects museums can have on the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. From simply visiting and learning about collections, joining in on outreach work or volunteering, those who go to museums regularly have increased life satisfaction and an improved sense of purpose.
Tell MSPs: Museums Matter
While many MSPs will be familiar with how museums support wellbeing, MGS wants to ensure our sector’s work in this area is at the forefront of their minds while they consider this important issue.
MGS has added an entry to the Committee’s online portal in which we reflect the sector’s strengths in championing community wellbeing. We’ve also reminded MSPs that museum services are under significant pressure and that it is now more essential than ever that they are funded to continue playing their part.
If you think this is something worth supporting, we’d love if you could endorse our entry by clicking on the ‘thumbs up’ icon. You don’t need to register and can do this anonymously if you would prefer.
Tell us what you’re doing!
You could also submit your own ideas to the portal – don’t forget to let us know by tweeting MGS at @MuseumsGalScot and using the hashtag #CommunityWellbeing.
If you have examples of community wellbeing which you haven’t already told us about, why not let us know, by emailing email@example.com.
The survey is open until Wednesday 22nd January.
What we’re doing
Promoting wellbeing is everyone’s business and this applies to where and how we work as much as our communities. That’s why MGS have recently embraced a more proactive approach to supporting wellbeing in the workplace – Including developing a wellbeing policy and starting a weekly walking group.
