New Fund Supports Museums To Take Part In Local Festivals

Museums Galleries Scotland has started to receive applications to their Festivals Fund, a new fund that helps museums to develop local and regional relationships and increase their audience development potential. The fund supports museums with the costs of staging an event that is part of a wider local or regional event programme or festival.

The Festivals Fund replaces the Festival of Museums Fund and gives museums more flexibility over when they hold an event. There has been considerable interest in the fund since its launch, and MGS has welcomed the conversations with museums and galleries to discuss potential applications. The MGS website also contains support for applicants in the form of webinars and advise on topics from event planning.

Sarah Burry-Hayes, Marketing Manager of Museums Galleries Scotland, said:

“We know from our experience of delivering Festival of Museums that there is a real appetite out there for museum events, but the timing of our Festival restricted some museums from getting involved. The Festivals Fund continues to offer museums funding support to demonstrate the exciting and fun places that they are while also building up lasting local partnerships and audiences.”

The Festivals Fund is now open for applications and Accredited Museums can apply for awards of up to £1500. It has quarterly closing dates with the first on the 7th February. You can find further details about the Festivals Fund and apply here.
