Museums Galleries Scotland statement on Caithness Horizons
As the National Development Body for museums in Scotland, Museums Galleries Scotland noted with concern the recent sudden closure of Caithness Horizons.
In this current financial climate, we know that many museums face difficult choices in trying to maintain services and Caithness Horizons had been facing some challenging circumstances.
Caithness Horizons plays an important role in telling the unique story of the local area and of Scotland’s prehistoric past. The museum connects people to their community, enhances the experience of visitors to the area and offers a valuable resource for learning and research. Museums Galleries Scotland is working to facilitate dialogue that might enable Caithness Horizons to remain an active part of their local community and to support a move towards sustainability in the long term.
We encourage any museum experiencing difficulties to get in touch with us so that we can offer our assistance and support.
